HideMyAss VPN Review

A VPN service are a ‘must have’ these days, in this age of information and technology, it is relatively easy for anyone with some basic knowledge to access your computer and steal your personal information.

VPN’s prevent that by rerouting your information through their own secured servers, hence protecting your info and identity. They provide complete anonymity and privacy for you to work in peace.

HideMyAss is based in UK and is owned by AVG technologies more or less, you might’ve heard of AVG as they are the same AVG as the immensely popular AVG security software.

It does exactly what its name suggests i.e, hides your location and identity. Despite its comical name, hide my ass VPN is no joke. Some of its features and advantages are mentioned below:

  • It has one of the largest networks due to its extreme popularity. HideMyAss has more than 940 servers in over 350 different worldwide locations, with about 120,000 IP addresses.
  • Supports two simultaneous connections.
  • Offers a multitude of other free services like extensions for chrome and Firefox, like the IP checker, panic button etc. Also included is the hidemyass, which is a hidemyass free proxy.
  • Offers up to four different protocols to choose from OpenVPN-UDP, OpenVPN-TCP, PPTP, and L2TP. Out of these, the OpenVPN protocol is the default one and can be changed via the settings later on.
  • Has a very easy to navigate, and visually pleasing website. You can very easily manage your subscriptions, change settings and whatnot.
  • Has an extensive knowledge base, and the email support is really responsive. Normally when you think of submitting a ticket, you expect them to take several hours if not a day or two to get back to you, but HMA offers some great service whose response time is usually within several minutes.
  • Signing up is extremely easy. Only your email and payment information is required, and until the first seven days are over (the 7-day free trial), you won’t be charged a penny.
  • As mentioned above, HMA offers a free 7-day trial, so you can take your time and test out their services free of charge.
  • Its client comes with 3 different options. The first is the “Instant option” and connects you to the nearest server. Second is Choosing a location, where you manually select a location to connect to, and third is something called Freedom, about which I’m not exactly sure what it is. What it does is, it connects you to the nearest country that has a high level of freedom of speech.
  • The VPN is very light on your system, unlike some of the other ones which are extremely demanding and might even slow your system down a bit.
  • Although its speed is not the fastest out there, but it is consistent. You won’t see any fluctuation and will get a constant stream of bandwidth.
  • It supports several other platforms as well, including android, MAC, and iOS.

  • Its security is a bit below the industry standard. Instead of the usual AES-256bit encryption, HMA offers 128-bit Blowfish encryption which is lower than what you would expect.
  • It’s app lacks some of the advanced features.

Hidemyass is a simple, easy to use and relatively fast VPN, which although lacks a little on the security side, but its vast network which has a server in almost every country in the world is a big plus.

It’s a very good VPN for anyone that doesn’t go deep web diving and just needs something to protect his information and surf the web in peace.
